Facebook now the official online platform for soccer

Good news for Soccer fans. Facebook will be bringing live soccer to its platform, according to a PC World article.

Facebook just signed a deal with Major League Soccer and the Univision Deportes television network to live stream regular season games through Facebook Live beginning March 18.Even though Univision Deportes is a Spanish network, an English-speaking stream will be available for an additional estimated 18 million soccer fans. Facebook commentators will be presenting it for the platform’s viewers.

Twenty-two regular season games will be streamed this year. The streamed videos will be formatted for mobile devices to ensurethe convenience of all viewers. Also, the viewing audience will be allowed to login and make comments enjoy interactive features during the live streamed showings.

The first game will be the Chicago Fire, sponsored by Atlanta United. In addition, FB will also be allowed to stream up to 40 “Matchday Live” shows on game days, which includes commentaries and analysis about MLS competitions.The first show of 2017 aired Week 1, presenting Matt Doyle and Andrew Wiebe who gave their comments and presented fans’ comments from the FB viewers.

Univision Deportes is one of the primary networks for the MLS, boasting more than 2.5 million followers on their Facebook page. Now, it looks like FB is going to be the leagues number on streamer for the league.

Facebook is not the only platform that’s on the ball with sports. Twitter began streaming American NFL football games last year and will reportedly do the same for the MLB and NHL.
